Reducing our carbon footprint with Three Hagges Woodmeadow.

We are delighted to have become corporate benefactors of the Woodmeadow Trust supporting the Three Hagges Woodmeadow based at Escrick near York.

Circular economy, sustainability, carbon footprint and green credentials are words frequently used in the business world today. Our team take these words seriously and have spent some time reviewing how our business operates and have pulled together a plan to help us be a greener business.

Our main objective is to reduce our carbon footprint, and to do this it involves lots of steps. The first is to calculate what our footprint actually is! More will be posted on this separately, be assured we will keep you informed about our journey.

It has been researched that one of the most effective ways to reduce your carbon footprint is to plant more trees and flowers. Easy right? Wrong, actually there is more to this idea than first thought.

We’ve teamed up with the Woodmeadow Trust and become a Corporate Benefactor. Not only does this support the wonderful work that they do but we can really learn from it too and understand how we are reducing our carbon footprint.

We can visit the wood and see it with our own eyes, we can soak up the atmosphere and fresh air, take a relaxing stroll to ease our stresses and learn. Learn how we are making a difference to the planet, how we are supporting volunteers who give their time freely to make a difference, how we are providing insects, birds and bats with a natural and abundant habitat.

Back in 2012 the first trees were planted in the newly formed meadow, and we were delighted to be part of it back then too. We attended the tree planting sessions, and we created their first ever website for the project. Things have moved on a lot since then and in our recent visit we were astounded by the progress made and how the meadow was flourishing, and the trees were growing up tall.

We are pleased to be back supporting the Trust and hope to enjoy the work they do in the Meadow for years to come. We hope that during this journey it will not only contribute to reducing our carbon footprint but that we will learn more about our environment and be able to inspire other companies to take more of an active role in projects such as the Three Hagges Wood Meadow.

About the Trust

Hagges Wood Trust is a pioneering charity that aims to help increase biodiversity across the UK. They have goals to create a national network of wood meadows across the UK and inspire people to care for these habitats. The Woodmeadow Trust team includes a Patron, eight trustees, a core team of five staff, a strong body of research associates, a growing number of friends and supporters and an invaluable number of volunteers. They became a registered charity in April 2013 and have already created so much biodiversity and opportunities for younger children to discover new wildlife.

About the Meadow

The Three Hagges Woodmeadow is based in Escrick and has lots to offer including a few small events each month, guided group visits, corporate away days, school visits and it makes an excellent family day out. Since they started the wood meadow in summer 2012, they have added a variety into the wood meadow including a canopy of oak, lime and beech, an edge mix of cherry, crab apples, thorns, rowan and hazel, and a shrub layer of flowering and fruiting natives to try and create as much biodiversity as possible.
