It is always a pleasure to accommodate for work experience students, this month we welcomed Sophie Hutchinson, from Tadcaster Grammar School who joined us for a one day placement, read Sophie’s story:
I am currently a full time student, in year 12 at Tadcaster Grammar School. Here, I study German, Psychology and Photography. After having thoroughly enjoyed using applications such as Video Star and Superimpose throughout my childhood, I then moved on to love studying Creative iMedia at GCSE – where I developed my love for digital marketing. This brought me to find Creative Shed – an agency helping with the marketing of other businesses. I chose to join their team for a day of work experience in order to develop my skills on different computer software and devices, as well for me to be able to discover the experience of working in an office.
I was looking forward to visiting and working there for a day, due to Creative Shed Agency doing the type of work that I want to go into. My day was a fantastic insight into future work – in which I learned about important skills when working within the marketing sector.
First of all, my day began with a task which was centered around attention to detail – where I was asked to write a set of instructions. Although my instructions were quite short and simple to begin with, I learnt that it is important to include all of the key and necessary details. This is helpful when creating websites, as clear communication is needed.
Secondly, I did a lot of interesting work researching news and events for https://sherburninelmet.co.uk/events/ (Sherburn in Elmet Events and News), for which I wrote small articles about upcoming events in and around Sherburn in Elmet. Following this, it was really exciting to be able to write two blog posts for https://fivestarembroidery.co.uk/ (Five Star Embroidery) and learn about how these are scheduled and uploaded on various dates throughout the year.
I really enjoyed my time at Creative Shed Agency, learning a lot of vitally important skills (such as attention to detail, research and writing). My favourite part of the day was being able to put these skills into practice and learning how to upload information onto the websites, while being in a relaxing atmosphere with lots of friendly staff. I was able to work on a variety of tasks which I feel really benefited me and gave me knowledge which will help me make future decisions on what sector of work I would like to go into in the future. I am very thankful that I was given this experience, and having learnt many transferable skills, I would recommend Creative Shed Agency to anyone who would like a similar experience or who wanted to gain knowledge in this area if working.
